Net zero tools

Over the course of dozens of net zero engagements, we have developed a suite of tools to help clients to understand what decarbonisation looks like for their organisation, and to confidently develop strategies to reduce their emissions to net zero.

It helps to break down the concept of net zero – which can be complex and daunting, even for seasoned practitioners – into a simple yet robust set of choices.

Climate Active certification

Climate Active is the premier carbon neutral standard in Australia, developed and administered by the Commonwealth Government. Our Climate Active Registered Consultants help clients to achieve certification under the Organisations, Products and Services, and Precincts standards from start to finish.

We also undertake third-party verification and assurance engagements of Climate Active applications.

Science-based targets (SBTs)

Historically, organisations set emissions reduction targets based on what they thought they could achieve. But with the signing of the Paris Agreement, the rules have changed – and organisations now set targets based on what constitutes their fair share of emissions reductions to limit the worst impacts of climate change, otherwise known as ‘science-based targets’ (SBTs).

The Science-Based Target Initiative (SBTi) was established by a partnership of leading NGOs in 2015 and has steadily grown in prominence since then. It provides a set of methodologies for organisations to set SBTs and have them validated.

Point Advisory has helped some of Australia’s largest companies from a wide range of sectors to understand the SBT methodologies, develop targets and undergo validation. We also help clients weave SBTs into their net zero emissions strategies.

Carbon accounting

We have one of the largest teams of carbon accounting experts in Australia, with deep knowledge across all of the major carbon accounting standards and frameworks including the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) scheme, the GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, PAS 2050 and the Climate Solutions Fund (CSF, formerly the Emissions Reduction Fund).

We have experience applying our carbon accounting knowledge in a range of contexts – for example, helping clients meet their compliance reporting requirements under the NGER scheme, assisting project developers in calculating the potential emissions reductions that could be achieved by their CSF projects or leading businesses through the Climate Active carbon neutral certification process.

In addition, we have several Category 1 and Category 2 (lead) Registered Greenhouse and Energy Auditors on our team.

Offset procurement and brokerage

The international carbon market is currently in a state of flux as it transitions from the old Kyoto Protocol to the new Paris Agreement. We help our clients navigate the various options open to them, including the ability to manage both short- and medium-term price risk.

Our expertise includes the development of carbon offset procurement strategies, and also the actual purchasing and surrender of carbon credits via our carbon brokerage and procurement service, Point Zero.
