Case Study
Point Advisory has been working with Melbourne Airport across a range of sustainability and environmental engagements since 2017. Through our initial engagements, assisting with National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting, National Pollutant Inventory reporting, Annual Environmental Reporting and EMS recertification, our team developed an extensive understanding of airport operations, environmental impacts and internal governance mechanisms. This provided us with the foundational knowledge necessary to assist the airport in writing its 5-year Environment Strategy, developing aspects of its energy strategy and in achieving Level 1 and 2 Airport Carbon Accreditation.
Importantly, achieving Level 2 Airport Carbon Accreditation required the development of a long-term Carbon Management Plan, supported by a baseline inventory, long-term emissions forecasts and an examination of science-based target options. Completion of these works ensured that Melbourne Airport was well prepared when one of its key investors requested that assets provide carbon and target information.
Following the receipt of this request, Point Advisory assisted Melbourne Airport’s Environment Team by preparing a briefing paper and presentation for the executive that presented the drivers and business case for adopting targets, and presented investment pathways for meeting them.
