Approved Verifier of Climate Bonds Standard & Certification Scheme

July 13, 2021

Point Advisory is now an Approved Verifier under the Climate Bonds Standard & Certification Scheme.

We are very excited to announce that Point Advisory has recently become an Approved Verifier under the Climate Bonds Standard & Certification Scheme. This is aligned with our desire to enable better-informed financing decisions, and ultimately shift capital towards projects that are aligned with the Paris Agreement targets.

The Climate Bond Standard is an overarching science-based, multi-sector standard overseen by the Climate Bonds Standards Board that allows investors and intermediaries to easily assess the climate credentials and environmental integrity of bonds and other green debt products.

Launched in 2011, with periodic updates, the Climate Bonds Standard is the most detailed climate-aligned investment criteria available in the market and provides guidance to issuers, investors, governments and regulators.

The Climate Bonds Standard and Certification Scheme is a labelling scheme for bonds, loans & other debt instruments. Rigorous scientific criteria ensure that it is consistent with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement to limit warming to under 2 degrees. The Scheme is used globally by bond issuers, governments, investors and the financial markets to prioritise investments which genuinely contribute to addressing climate change.

We will be able to provide verification services for all Climate Bonds Sector criteria:

About Approved Verifiers: Under the Climate Bonds Standard and Certification Scheme, an Approved Verifier will check a bond Issuer’s upcoming bond against the Standard and sector based technical criteria for compliance. If the bond complies with the Standard and Criteria, the Verifier will write a report to verify that the bond can be marketed to investors as a Certified Climate Bond.

When CBI certification isn’t possible for a given sector or project activity, Point Advisory may be able to provide a Second Party Opinion (SPO) over the alignment of the debt instrument with the International Capital Market Association (ICMA)’s principles, which include the Green Bond, Social Bond, and the Sustainability-Linked Bond Principles, and the key requirements of the European Union’s Green Bond Standard.

Point Advisory is uniquely placed to deliver the verification procedures given our combined environmental, social and governance (ESG), financial audit and responsible investment sector experience. We also bring in-depth subject matter expertise. Since 2013, we have provided technical, strategic advisory and assurance services across climate change mitigation and adaptation, carbon accounting and sustainability.
